OSCON 2014 Birds of a Feather Sessions

What is a BoF?

Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions provide face-to-face exposure to those interested in the same projects and concepts. BoFs can be organized for individual projects or broader topics (best practices, open data, standards). BoFs are entirely up to you. We post your topic online and onsite and provide the space and time. You provide the engaging topic.

BoFs at OSCON will happen at the following times:

Evening BoFs

  • Sunday, July 20 – 7:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Tuesday, July 22 – 7:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Wednesday, July 23 – 7:00pm – 10:00pm

See the listing of currently scheduled BoF sessions.

How do I lead a BoF?

Sign up online in advance or check the BoF schedule board onsite at the Oregon Convention Center (near registration) and sign up in any open slot. If you sign up online in advance, you will receive an email confirming the time of your BoF as soon as it is approved.

Moderating a Birds of a Feather talk is open to anyone, however you must be registered for OSCON to conduct a BoF. The BoF moderator is not a speaker in the main program.

Please note that audio/visual equipment, including projection equipment, will not be available for BoF sessions. If you require any audio/visual equipment, you may request services from our audio visual vendor, ETS by emailing speakers@oreilly.com.

How do I participate in a BoF?

If you would like to join the discussion in one of the BoFs, there is no need to formally sign up. You can check the list of prescheduled BoFs online (when the event gets closer), or check the BoF schedule board onsite at the Oregon Convention Center (near registration) for topics and locations.

Tribe Tables at Lunch

In addition to evening BoFs, we’ll also be having more informal tribe tables at lunch each day of the convention. Find and connect with other like-minded people while you eat lunch at tables designated for certain languages, technologies, and interests. Look for the signs on the tables near the buffet lines each day. No advance signup is necessary.
