An introduction to Unicode

iso8859? latin1? utf8? If the very mention of these terms leaves you cold, or confused, or both, don’t worry. A lot of the details of dealing with Unicode are abstracted away by modern programming languages so, more often than not, you get by without dealing with it. But when localizing products or websites for non-English speaking markets, you are bound to come across Encodings and Unicode. This session goes all the way back to the early days of modern computing and tries to explain how the need for Unicode came about, what you need to know about it as a developer, and how you can work with it effectively in the programming language of your choice.
