Office Hour with Asheesh Laroia

Asheesh Laroia (Eventbrite)
Location: Expo Hall (Table 1)

In these office hours, Asheesh Laroia will further discuss quantitative community management. You and Asheesh can work together to discuss specific quantitative efforts that could be applied to your open source project, or how to make better use of existing efforts, or how to address possible bias problems in your opt-in surveys so you can better understand the nature of your project’s community.

Asheesh loves growing camaraderie among geeks. He chaired the Johns Hopkins Association for Computing Machinery and taught Python classes at Noisebridge, San Francisco’s hackerspace. He realizes that most of the work that makes projects successful is hidden underneath the surface.

He has volunteered his technical skills for the UN in Uganda, the EFF, and Students for Free Culture, and is a Developer in Debian. Until recently, he engineered software and scalability at Creative Commons in San Francisco; today, he works at OpenHatch as its project lead.

Asheesh: You may be aware that I am in the process of making the transition from “unpaid geek volunteer” to “rapacious capitalist”. I am keen to discuss how I can continue to add more to the open source community than I take from it, even when I become fabulously rich. [These remarks are tongue-in-cheek, to highlight the conflicted state I sometimes find myself in].
