The SaaS (software as a service) deployment model means developers can take advantage of popular OSS technologies without any need to deploy, configure, or manage the underlying technology themselves. Although this trend started with comprehensive applications (e.g., SalesForce.com) that pull together many different technologies, there is a trend toward more modular and specialized services providing specific functionality for software designers: data storage, indexing and storage, caching, identity and authentication, and so on.

In this session, we’ll look at various open source technologies that are available as services running on Windows Azure. Although hosted on Azure, these services can be used from any platform. We’ll look at demonstrations of various use cases, including review of architecture and source code in PHP, Node.js, JavaScript, and C#.
