OSCON Scholarships

Together with our sponsors, we are pleased to announce the following OSCON scholarship opportunities for people who may not otherwise be able to attend.

InformIT (Scholarship awarded)

  • Who can apply? This scholarship is open to women in technology, over 18 years of age, interested in exploring and enhancing their skills, and want to be part of the Open Source Community. InformIT is committed to providing women in technology educational resources to help bridge the gender gap.
  • What does it include? One (1) winner will receive a Full Conference Pass to OSCON 2013 in Portland, Oregon. Winner is responsible for paying for their own travel, hotel, food, and any other expenses incurred during the conference.
  • How do I apply? To apply for this scholarship, women can enter at informit.com/wit.
  • What's the deadline? All entries must be received by 11:59 pm ET on Friday, June 28, 2013. Winner will be notified via email by Wednesday, July 3, 2013. See informit.com/wit for more details.

DataStax (Scholarships awarded)

Update: The deadline to apply for the DataStax scholarships has passed and the scholarships have been awarded

  • Who can apply? Participation is limited to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate computer science/engineering program at a college or university. DataStax is committed to championing women in technology, and will reserve one scholarship for a female developer.
  • What does it include? 3-Day pass to OSCON (plus travel expenses) and a paid internship at DataStax
  • How do I apply? In order to participate in this scholarship program, you must build any kind of application on Apache Cassandra and document your experiences. All the details can be found on the DataStax Next Great Data Developer page.
  • What's the deadline? May 1, 2013

GitHub (Scholarships awarded)

  • Who can apply? This program is open to women and minorities who are passionate about open source, and who have never attended OSCON. Five (5) winners will be determined based on open source contributions and community involvement.
  • What does it include? Winners will receive a free 3-Day Pass to OSCON, but will be responsible for paying their own travel expenses.
  • How do I apply? To apply for this scholarship please email a paragraph outlining your open source and community contributions, along with your GitHub username to Elizabeth Naramore.
  • What's the deadline? Entries must be received by June 15, 2013 and winners will be notified July 1, 2013.

New Relic (Scholarships Awarded) 

Update: The deadline to apply for the New Relic scholarships has passed and the scholarships have been awarded

  • Who can apply? Anyone. The two winners will be determined based on open source contributions and community involvement.
  • What does it Include? Winners will receive a 3-Day Pass to OSCON, but will be responsible for paying their own travel expenses.
  • How do I apply? To apply, please email a paragraph outlining your open source and community contributions to Rori Reber.
  • What's the deadline? Closed
