Gary Frost
Principal Member of Technical Staff, AMD
Gary Frost is a Software Engineer and Principal Member of the Technical Staff at AMD, Austin, TX. He has been part of the Java Labs team for 5 years and has been working on various JVM performance analysis, optimizations and tools. Recently Gary’s focus has been on enabling Java access to GPU/APU devices. Gary has previously delivered technical presentations at both JavaOne and Eclipsecon.

Aparapi provides an API for expressing data parallel workloads in Java and a runtime capable of converting Java bytecode into OpenCL for execution on a GPU. For some data-parallel algorithms, executing on the GPU can offer substantial performance gains.
We will introduce Aparapi, demonstrate key features as well as discuss lessons learned during the transition from closed to open-source.
