John is a software engineer on the VP8 team. In addition to day-to-day development, he focuses on fostering adoption and development of the VP8 codec by the open source community. Prior joining Google, John was a software engineer on the codec development and embedded optimization teams at On2 Technologies.

John earned a bachelor’s degree in computer systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
