For most of recorded history, online education has been an exercise in futility, chasing shadows with superstition. How do you deliver content, evaluate students, and above all, teach? Hubris and the allure of technology led many engineers to think that the latest cool tool would do the job. But nothing substitutes for an experienced educator, and in 2007, when Scott Gray came from the University of Illinois at Champaign to start the O’Reilly School of Technology, he brought a teacher’s experience and a teacher’s passion to reach as many students as he could.

Come to this talk to hear the essential elements of online education and the proper role of technology within it. The configuration of tools that comprise the OST browser-driven learning environment will be described, including Confluence, Nano, and the customized Eclipse IDE.

The Perl certificate course author, will also be speaking to give the perspective of a traditional author and trainer adapting to this new environment, and what makes this model different from other forms of knowledge delivery.

@Mike – This session happens on Friday, July 29 so the least expensive pass would be the OSCON Sessions Only (good for Wed-Fri of OSCON): en.oreilly.com/oscon2011/pu...

Hi, What is the least expensive registration option that includes “Online Education That Works: The O’Reilly School of Technology”? Thanks, Mike
