The “source” is the code. It is also the “data”. It is the documentation, the artwork, the community. If the exposition is impenetrable, a friendly license can’t encourage uptake. Conversely, proprietary implementations which are immediately understandable are often desirable. We will examine successful and failed projects and examine how attention to the craftsmanship of the source trumps openness.
