One of the most popular questions about running a business based on open source software is “how do I market my business?” Many technical people view marketing with distain, and since technical people tend to be the ones who start open source businesses, marketing can be a mystery. This talk will relate some of the experiences of the speaker in marketing his own open source company, and will include some surprises on what he has discovered about the target market for services around open source software.
