OSCON has a very packed schedule. This is a page to organize social gatherings other than those on the regular agenda.

Time and location TBD, proposed: 7pm, Thirsty Lion Pub, 71 Southwest 2nd Ave – Note that the Thirsty Lion is a quick & free ride on the TriMet MAX Light Rail from the convention center, just a little longer from Doubletree. Sign up below if you plan to be there, note if you need directions, a ride, etc.

9pm – Karaoke begins

A large group of the OSCON speakers and attendees will be heading to this venue, which is in walking distance of the Convention Centre.
We welcome all interested people. Whether you want to sing along or sit on the sidelines, please come along to enjoy the fun.
Randal L. Schwartz will be there, for example, and hopes to live stream it if all goes well.
Darcelle XV is one of Portland’s icons, and she has been a female impersonator for about 40 years. I have heard that her shows are great and worth seeing. Some of us talked about heading out there, depending on our schedules. She hosts an 8:30pm show on Wednesday through Friday, and a late 10:30pm show on Friday. Tickets are 15 bucks and it’s best to have a meal before/after the show. Anyone interested—talk to Carol Rutz.
Free Geek – “where the needy get nerdy” – handles many of Portland’s recyclable computers, rebuilding some with Linux, responsibly recycling the materials in others. Freegeek runs on hundreds of volunteers, training and supporting many of Portland’s underserved, and providing them with tested and working systems. The Free Geek operating procedures are “open source” and community-driven, and have been replicated in other regions around the world.
The weather looks good for Friday. Let’s meet around 2:45pm at the Convention Center, and walk down to Free Geek at 1731 SE 10th, about 2.5 blocks south of Hawthorne. Or, you can take the number 70 bus from Multnomah north of the convention center, south on 12th (see “trimet”http://www.trimet.org . The tour will start at 3:30pm – if you get there early, you can shop in the Free Geek store.
Afterwards, we can reconvene at the Lucky Labrador Brewpub on Hawthorne for food and beverage. Keith Lofstrom (Server Sky D136 11:50am) will guide the walk – Dave at Free Geek will be leading the tour.
