Pinax is an open-source platform built on the Django Web Framework that dramatically reduces the time it takes to develop Web sites.
Whereas a framework like Django provides things like object-relational mapping, URL routing and HTML templating, Pinax layers on top of that components for more user-facing functionality such as account management, integration with OpenID and OAuth, invitations, friendships, groups, tagging, commenting and much more.
The goal of Pinax is to allow web site developers to focus more on what makes their web site different and not have to constantly reinvent the wheel in the areas that are similar across websites.
Pinax has been used to build everything from social networks to corporate intranets and from banking software to online games.
James Tauber is an Australian web developer and entrepreneur now based in Boston. He has been involved in open source, Web standards and Python for over a decade but now focuses his time on Django-based websites and the Pinax platform.
