With thirteen tracks of content plus tutorials and keynotes, OSCON can be a little overwhelming to navigate.
To help you find your way around, we're pleased to announce the OSCON Android App, which lets you carry the full schedule around in your pocket, along with a map for each session room. To install it, just search for "OSCON" in the Android Market or scan the barcode at the bottom of this post.
The app was developed by Peter Krenesky of the Oregon State University Open Source Lab and itself open source.
I asked Peter to tell us a little about the how and why he developed the app.
"I'm an iPhone user, but hack on my G1 for fun. One week before the Open Source Bridge conference I started a conference schedule app. Like so many other open source projects, I didn’t ask permission. I just built it. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees contributed code, and one even incorporated it into his Android talk. Inspired by this, the original app was updated for other conferences to reuse.
The OSCON Android app is the first conference to reuse the app. It’s also a repeat of the project's beginning. Just get it built and out to the community."
To get the source for the app, head over to the project page.
If you want to get a quick start on developing for Android, don't forget the Google Android Hands-On on Wednesday evening. Sign-up is free for OSCON attendees.
