In this talk, Chris DiBona will bring the audience up to date on recent Google activities in open source. We will specifically cover advances in Android’s open source deployment infrastructure, including the Gerrit and Repo tools, and the directions those tools are taking. This talk will also feature a brief update from Leslie Hawthorn on the 2009 edition of the Summer of Code, and an in depth discussion expanding on the licenses and projects spoken about during the plenary.
Chris DiBona is the Open Source Programs Manager for Mountain View, Ca based Google, Inc. His job includes managing open source related compliance and outreach programs for the company. More information about Google’s open source program can be found at http://code.google.com/opensource
Before joining Google, Mr. DiBona was an editor/author for the hugely popular online website slashdot.org and he is an internationally known advocate of open source software and related methodologies. He co-edited the award winning essay compilations “Open Sources” and “Open Sources 2.0” for O’Reilly and writes for a great number of publications. He was briefly the Linux guy on TechTV, starred in Floss Weekly and speaks on a variety of open source issues internationally.
An internationally known community manager, speaker and author, Leslie Hawthorn has over 10 years experience in high tech project management, marketing and public relations. In January 2012 she joined AppFog as their Community Manager, where she is responsible for developer engagement. Prior to AppFog, she served as Outreach Manager at Oregon State University’s Open Source Lab and as a Program Manager for Google’s Open Source Team, where she managed the Google Summer of Code Program, created the contest now known as Google Code In and launched the company’s Open Source Developer Blog.
