XDebug is an open-source extension for PHP that contains debugging and profiling tools. It provides an excellent toolkit for any developer to identify and resolve bugs, bottlenecks, and hard-to-track problems.

This session will be a crash course in XDebug and its features. It will cover:

  • Using XDebug to get started on a new codebase faster.
  • XDebug’s magical variable output features.
  • Profiling code with XDebug to find bottlenecks.
  • Improving your stack traces with XDebug.
  • Finding out how much of your code is actually used.
  • Remote debugging.

Understanding this tool helps make a great developer even better, helps ensure more error-free code and better development practices.

The overview was really short. I would have liked to seen some more in depth examples, especially with profiling. This looks like a really useful tool.
