The web has evolved into the preeminent application platform. The design principles and technologies that have served the Internet well in terms of cost, scale and ease of development are just beginning to be applied to the enterprise. This comprehensive session explains the characteristics and benefits of Web Oriented Architecture (WOA), provides strategies and includes enterprise success stories. This is a high level technical talk that will cover some technology basics before touching on (high level) architectural design strategies for both IT and Developers and then delve into some real world enterprise success stories.
Attendees will learn that WOA is the application of RESTful design principles to existing web technologies and standards. By utilizing existing standards, WOA applications increase the ease and diminish the cost of extensibility, integration and scale without sacrificing enterprise requirements of security and governance. Attendees will learn how WOA enables open (but secure) APIs, cloud computing, rapid application development, rapid customization, data freedom, mashups and, yes, still manages to deliver significant and measurable value to the enterprise. SOA technologies and design principles are known for being heavy and expensive. RESTafarian WOArriors are delivering on what SOA promised to us years ago – high ROI and dramatically lower total cost of ownernship.
