WAS Community Edition 2.1 is a Java EE 5 certified application server. Built from Apache Geronimo and Apache Tomcat, WAS Community Edition is a flexible, lightweight application server with excellent performance and ease-of-use characteristics. WAS CE is free to download and use, with optional for-fee support available from IBM. New features in the 2.1 release allow server install images to be built which are custom-tailored to the specific requirements of a user’s application(s). This minimizes the server’s start-up time, installation size, and runtime memory footprint. Other features which are new to 2.1 include a flexible admin console, monitoring client, a new command processing framework, WADI-based clustering, and improvements to the Eclipse Plugin.
This BoF will review and demonstrate the new (and existing) features of WAS CE 2.1 server and Eclipse Plugin. Also, we will discuss new features being developed in the Apache Geronimo community.
