Standards and Open Source

BoF
Location: E141
Average rating: *****
(5.00, 1 rating)

Both Metcalfe’s Law and Reed’s Law predict that the value of interoperability increases in correlation with the number of compatible participants. Therefore, both theories support the need for Open Source software to be standards based. However, significant debate abounds in the open source community with regards to standards compliance.

This BOF session is for fans of open source development and for those concerned with how standards should be applied to open source applications and development. Topics will include:

Applying existing standards
Participating in existing standards development and inhibitors thereto
Open Standards
Defacto standards
