An Open Source Startup in Three Hours

One of the most enjoyable developments in the last year has been the “Startup Weekend” experience, where a group of strangers gathers on Friday evening and launches a web company 54 hours later on Sunday night.

This tutorial walks participants through each step of the startup weekend experience, starting with idea formation and ending with how to transition from “weekend project” to “going concern”. For OSCON, we’ll also be doing interactive exercises in idea selection and technology planning.

Gavin Doughtie is a front end developer on Google’s Picasa Web Albums. He started and ran the LA Java Users’ Group and has worked on the development teams of the two California Startup Weekends so far.
